The Melbourne Gastrointestinal Investigation Unit provide a number of treatment and therapy options for Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD).
These options include:
- treatment by injection with the immunomodulator, Methotrexate.
- treatment with the biologics: Humira [Adalimumab], Remicade [Infliximab] & Entyvio [Vedolizumab].
As part of your treatment, we:
- organise baseline tests.
- advise regarding pre-treatment vaccination.
- educate you in the use of the drug and any potential side effects.
- our nursing staff will teach you to self-administer the injections & safe disposal of the sharps.
- Provide regular treatment by injection or provide infusions with biologics drugs when needed.
- Provide infusions with biologics drugs when needed.
- Some tests, including faecal calprotectin and infliximab levels, are tested directly in our lab.
Research drug trials
A/Prof Henry Debinski participates in a number of research drug trials involving new therapies for both Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis that are supervised by MGIU.
